Stochastic, Flash and the Future.

Posted by MasterBoo - April 6th, 2008

Hello there fellow NewGrounders! I'm MasterBoo, maker of the game Stochastic, and this is my first blog post on NewGrounds! Today I'd like to talk about my own experiments with Flash development, Stochastic, and things to come!

Stochastic was sort of an experiment to me. I've been doing Flash for 7 years now, but never really finished a project. I had lots of things in mind, but I never found enough strength to finish my projects. Well you see, I'm not living a perfectionist life, but when it comes to graphics and Flash - I have my standards, and everything I've done so far didn't meet them.

So Stochastic goal was to see if I can finish a project. A good project. Well, it's not perfect, I know. The controls were poorly designed (well, I played it so much while testing it I didn't care much to me, but I had to assume new players would find it hard to navigate), the FPS drop like crazy after a while, teleports aren't balanced (getting too many of them) any other minor things.

Nevertheless, Stochastic made me proud - both in the technical field (the 3D rising water effect is something I've seen before in a Flash game) and in what it achieved after submitting it to NewGrounds. I mean, Frontpage in its first hours, and 80k views in just 3 days. That really motivated me to keep on, and press harder on my projects.

Which drives me to my next topic...! A RPG I've started developing right after I've seen the feedback on Stochastic. As a gamer who his favorite genre is old-school CRPG (Baldur's Gate series, Fallout, Planescape etc.), I want to make a deep, quality RPG with never seen before mechanics. I had this idea in my mind for a long time, but now, with the motivation given by the success of Stochastic, I'm ready to make it, and HELL - now it'll be done.

I've attached a really small sneak peak of things to come. Currently it's nothing, hopefully in the near future you'll see more (damn exam period! :P).

As for a sequel for Stochastic, I'm not planning one as for this moment - I prefer spending my free time making the RPG I'm working on, which is something I really REALLY want to make. I hope you've enjoyed the read, and Stochastic. Expect great things from me in the future!

Well...I'd have to say I'm curious...any hints on when it'll be done? Any not-so-vague hints?...lol...

I cannot say for sure, but not less than 2 months in my opinion. I want this game to be perfect so polishing it might take a while. In addition, the game will include original score.

omg a new game? i cant wait!

I'm bored...waiting on about 4 different thingers so...
